This Country Of Ours: The Civil War

The Northern states and the Southern states were fighting because of slavery. The South thought they needed slavery but the North knew that owning another person was wrong. This was the Civil War. The Confederates had just built an ironclad ship named '' Merimac'' unfortunately the federal only had wooden boats. One day, one of the federal boats named ''Cumberland''was out at sea when the Merimac sailed up.With her big black shiny iron beak she pierced the Cumberland in the side and the Cumberland sunk to the depths of the sea. The next day another federal boat sailed up at dawn named ''Congress.'' The Congress was a little more daring and didn't give up until the boat caught a- flame. During all this fighting, the government had been building a new ship for the federals that could resist cannons. This ship was named '' Monitor.'' The next day the Monitor sailed out ready to fight.  The Monitor and the Merimac spent three hours fighting, till at last the Merimac sailed away. Some people think the battle was a draw, but others say the Monitor won. I think the Monitor won because it didn't get destroyed or sail away what do you think?
